LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Holland has finally addressed the two-year absence of Peter Parker from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the release of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' in 2021.
At a recent press conference with the Critics Choice Association (via Collider), the 27-year-old actor talked about his next appearance as Spider-Man. The actor said he wants to protect the Spider-Man franchise's legacy and will not make another movie only for the sake of making it.
I won't make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character, Holland said.
He portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in three standalone films: 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' (2017), 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' (2019), and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' (2021).
He also appeared in MCU's blockbuster' Avengers: Infinity War' (2018) and its sequel 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019). Spider-Man has not appeared in any of the MCU movies after 2021.
Tom Holland is 'protective' of Spider-Man
Breaking the silence over the next rendition of his much-loved character, Holland said, All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing.
The English actor admitted that he is very protective of the character and is lucky for the opportunity to work with the franchise.
I feel very protective of Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy, said the actor.
Release date for fourth Spider-Man installment yet to be revealed
The production of a future Spider-Man movie is not close yet, but Holland is still in love with his role.
But that said, if we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man. I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I'll only tell it if we can find the right one, the onscreen superhero said in the press conference.
In February, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the story for Holland's fourth Spider-man was ready and it was being written at the time.
However, the WGA strike, which started in May, halted the process in solidarity with the writers. However, Marvel has yet to officially announce the date for the next movie after the strike ended on September 27.
Internet calls Tom Holland the' heart and soul' of Spider-Man
Fans are eager to watch the Marvel superhero back on the big screen. The success of the last three Spider-man movies proved that Holland did justice to the superhero taking over the role after Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
