Amazon Studios is finally remaking the cult 1989 hit action film ‘Road House’. Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast to play the lead in the movie. The action flick will also feature a stellar star cast including Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, BK Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp, and Bob Menery. The movie is being directed by Doug Liman, while the screenplay has been written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. Joel Silver is producing the film. JJ Hook, Alison Winter, and Aaron Auch serve as executive producers.

Talking about the remake of ‘Road House’, Amazon Studio head Jennifer Salke said, “Road House is a homerun for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie. We are thrilled to collaborate with Joel, Doug, and this great cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, and for them to come together to reimagine the classic MGM film as an action-packed adventure for our global audience.”

The official synopsis reads, “The new take follows a former UFC fighter (Gyllenhaal) who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys, but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise.”

Director Doug Liman said, “I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”

The Amazon Original movie is set to go into production in the Dominican Republic in August and will stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Producer Joel Silver shared, “The original Road House has a special place in my heart and I am so excited to bring this newly imagined version to audiences around the world. Doug and I have each made some big, boisterous action movies and are ready to bring everything we have to this one.”

The news about Gyllenhaal essaying late Patrick Swayze’s role in ‘Road House’ remake was announced by Deadline on their official Twitter handle.

Social media users took to Twitter to express their views about the remake of the iconic movie. Several felt that Jake Gyllenhaal is not the right choice for the movie. They also mentioned that the film is a visual masterpiece that should not be ruined and left alone.

“Jake Gyllenhaal really does seem to have given up on winning that Oscar, doesn't he?” shared a fan. “Maybe he realized that doing silly s**t is more fun,” added another fan.

“The problem with this goes deeper than we think. We’ll be angry that they’re remaking it, but then we’ll watch it on day 1 out of curiosity. Fighting movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and a bunch of B-listers doesn’t sell. Throw the name Roadhouse in it, and we tune in,” added a fan.

“No. Just no,” said a fan. “I’d rather see a remake of Citizen Kane than a reboot of Roadhouse. Leave perfect alone,” a fan noted.

“Look, I think Gyllenhaal is a great actor, & Melchior was great in THE SUICIDE SQUAD & seems like a really sweet person. But this is like trying to remake CASABLANCA to me. Some things are just a no. I'll take Bradley Cooper in a Wade Garrett prequel, but that's it. #RoadHouse,” another fan added.
